The Hebraica University is aware of the importance of education as a driving force, as well as of the relevance of institutions of higher education in the development of individuals and citizens. Therefore, one of its main goals is to prepare educators and leaders that are sensitive to core values such as respect, openness and honesty. The Hebraica University must also favor the development of individuals who are mature, productive and creative so that they can participate in the creation of a new society that is always growing, as well as help their students develop the necessary tools to live with the intellectual flexibility that comes from a plural world that is constantly changing.
Based on the statement above:
-
We express our faith and confidence in humanity and its possibilities of growth and development
-
We respect and recognize the differences and unique characteristics of the students as manifestations of their own personalities
-
We hold belief in the current relevance and pertinence of the values of Judaism
-
We believe in the individual, as someone who builds himself by holding a dialogue with others and, through education, is capable of living, engaging and getting involved in the challenges of both the Jewish world and the world in general.
Our commitment to education is based on the following:
Principles
- The transmission of Jewish identity, culture and religion
(Talmud Torah)
To build a cultural and institutional identity through knowledge that allows for a correct personal and collective immersion in a global and plural world.
- Ethics, responsibility and social engagement
(Iosher ve tzedek)
In the Jewish tradition, an ethical conscience is a basic principle in the concept of a human being. Therefore, assuming this condition implies a moral attitude of engaging oneself, through education, in the challenges of the world in general and the Jewish world in particular.
- Pluralism, Openness and the Search for Knowledge
(Shivim panim la Torah)
Throughout its evolution, Jewish culture has always appreciated diversity, freedom and pluralism. For this reason, we are compelled to promote the different knowledge fields in the scientific, educational and Jewish thoughts as they relate to the different areas of the community and the society that we interact with.
- An attitude of service towards the community and society
(Tikkun olam)
As recipients of the tradition of Israel, we understand that our main goal is to make the world a better, more just and humane place.
- Academic excellence and educational innovation
(Jojmá)
Both in the society of knowledge and in a globalized and ever-changing world, academic excellence is essential and becomes a fundamental engine for university life. Our understanding of academic excellence involves:
- A strong methodology to build knowledge.
- An instrument to promote change as well as scientific and technological innovation by promoting projects of educational research.
- Quality criteria in the formation of educators and community leaders, with the ability to think creatively and critically to confront the challenges that our society demands.
